I have been asked why nice people often get treated as if they were fools. This is a simple question, and yet the answer is rather more complicated.
Are such people really nice, or do they want to please others? Are there any advantages to being a bit more assertive? There just might be when it comes to health.
As always, it is well worth studying other people to find answers for ourselves. Specifically study those individuals who were able to triumph over adversity. It is a rare gift to be able to turn a negative situation into a positive one. This is why society quite rightly admires survivors. These are people who beat the odds. We all like to see proof that sometimes the odds can be beaten, and if they can do it, then perhaps so can we.
Research shows certain characteristics of survivors gives them an advantage, and one of them is assertiveness, another is accepting a situation, and then making the best of it.
These are the people who made their own luck from nothing, which is just about the greatest skill a person can have.
