The Power of Networking.
This month I have enjoyed networking with a large number of interesting people. It started with this Radio interview on an American station that was rebroadcast throughout the country.
When I hear the same message being repeated time and again I eventually get the message. It does not matter whether you are an actor, writer, or coach. The people who are hugely successful will identify the power of their networks as their most valuable resource. My networking activities continued this week as an exhibitor at the National Exhibition Centre near Birmingham.
This should not come as a surprise to anybody but the more people you talk to about your work and your projects the more valuable the feedback you will receive. It did not come as a surprise to me either.
However, I was surprised by what the majority of people at the World of Learning conference were searching for. They were less interested in mind coaching than I expected, but far more interested in identifying suitable motivational speakers. A common theme was the difficulties they had in finding suitable speakers for their events, and how often they had been disappointed in the past.
So on the way home I reflected on a very enjoyable two days. I did not find what I expected to find, but I found something so much richer. How often does that happen, and how often have I advised my clients that their greatest successes will come when they least expect it, and often from a surprising direction too?
So I will end with a gentle reminder for those near London that my next Meet Up is on Thursday 27th 6.45PM in my lair at 10 Harley Street, London. Places are extremely limited – more details here.
