The Ultimate Goal Is Not to Have One

At the risk of further muddying the murky waters, let me tell you what you might have already guessed: the ultimate goal is to have no goal at all. When one’s mind, body, and soul are seamlessly linked in the appreciation of the moment, then other goals are just not necessary. Magical results surface, as if from nowhere. My book Get Lucky Now! is about how to get what you want the easy way. Setting the right type of goals is the foundation that everything else is built upon. This blog continues the series of excerpts from Get Lucky Now.

Very few people achieve this degree of detachment; the rest of us must continue to rely upon our goals. These are the goals that we have constructed with as much care and insight as we can. They will be more than sufficient to enrich our lives and provide much inspiration during the journey.

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

Do not worry if your goal is still unclear, or indeed if it should change while reading this book—or later. You’ll see further information on how to get started on this in the conclusion, and then you will be more than ready to join the lucky people.

Often, all that is necessary is to be more in touch with our world—moment by moment. This will be the constant strand throughout this book.

Author Robert Pirsig has provided me with much inspiration since my student days. I have read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance countless times. Although his messages are not the easiest to decipher, I think I know (but easily could be wrong) what he means when he says, “It is a puzzling thing. The truth knocks on the door and you say, ‘Go away, I’m looking for the truth,’ and so it goes away. Puzzling.”

How many truths do we not see because our minds are elsewhere? How much of our precious time have we wasted searching for something that cannot be found but can only be perceived through intuition?

We have enjoyed enough puzzles for the moment. Our brains love questions, and the response is always more creative than when we just follow orders.

Go with the flow

Since writing my book, Get Lucky Now!  my thoughts have moved even more strongly in the direction of going with the flow of life, rather than trying to impose one’s own aspirational goals upon it. By definition such goals come from the very narrow bandwidth of our conscious mind. I have concluded its way beyond my pay grade to dictate life. Things seem to go so much smoother when I let the wind and the tides decide where I end up.

After consulting the weather forecast and the tide tables I would not be surprised if the next blog examines one of our most influential resources. It’s all about confidence or the lack of it. Confidence is a huge subject and therefore is included in my NLP coaching programs. More information can be found here – http://drstephensimpson.com/techniques/nlp/

Living in the 1% of reality

The phrase “living in one percent of reality” can be interpreted in a few different ways. When my clients grasp even the smallest degree of understanding about this concept, their performances are propelled to a much higher level than they expected, or believed they were capable of reaching. What feels so real to us is largely an illusion of our own making.
